In July this year, we had the chance to visit Singapore Changi Airport. You may be wondering, ‘why would they be so interested in visiting an airport?’. And typically, for most airports around the world, that’s a legitimate question. However, Changi Airport is unlike any other. There are so many things to do in the airport itself, that even staying a night or two at the airport or close to it is well worth your time! With four passenger terminals and flights to more than 400 countries, it is no surprise that the airport offers facilities that make travellers time in the area enjoyable!
At the moment Singapore Changi Airport is giving one lucky person the opportunity to win a trip to Changi Airport (for 2 people). Details about the competition are at the bottom of this blog!
The Latest Addition to Changi Airport – The Jewel
The starring feature of Changi Airport (in our opinion), is the Jewel which opened this year. It is an architectural masterpiece. This itself puts Singapore Changi Airport in an entirely different category to any other airport worldwide!
The area features the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, treetop walking trails, more than 280 retail shops, food and beverage and the Crowne Plaza Changi Hotel. It is no wonder the airport has been named the ‘Best Airport in the World’.
The Main Reasons why ‘We love Changi’ Airport
During our recent trip to Singapore, we were lucky enough to spend a night at the Changi Crowne Plaza Hotel. Located directly at Terminal 3, this hotel is perfectly positioned for a stopover in Singapore.
There are many reasons that we fell in love with Changi Airport during our recent trip to Singapore. Let’s have a look below at some of our main reasons.
1. The Vortex is an architectural masterpiece
The Vortex is the crowning feature of the Jewel. At 40 metres, it is the largest indoor waterfall in the world. It cascades down seven stories from an oculus in the mega structure’s roof. Make sure to also have a look from the basement levels (as seen in the image below)!
2. There are Robots wandering around The Jewel
We were mind blown to find robots wandering around The Jewel. They are at the base of the Vortex, on the ground level. Here we found them mopping up the floor from the splash of the waterfall. It’s amazing to see the emerging technology that has been incorporated into this airport!
3. The Night Show at the Jewel is stunning!
The night show at the Jewel is magnificent. Shows are held daily at 7.30 pm, 8.30 pm, 9.30 pm, 10.30
4. The Canopy Level at The Jewel offers an endless amount of fun
The canopy level at the Jewel is located on level 5. It offers over 14,000 square metres of recreational space. Our favourite activities included Topiary Walk, Hedge Maze and the Sky Nets.
5. The Butterly Garden is an oasis within the Airport
Located in Terminal 3, the Butterly Garden is free to all visitors. Home to over 40 different species of butterflies it is a perfect place to visit when you have a few hours
6. There are places to get free massages
Yes, it is possible to get a free foot massage at Changi Airport. Located within Terminal 1, 2 and 3, you will find multiple points where you can just sit down and enjoy a 15-minute foot via a massage chair / machine.
7. You can shop till you drop!
Changi Airport pretty much offers a world-class shopping centre with everything from luxury designers to well-known brands such as Zara, Apple and Adidas.
