Slovenia is all about it’s natural beauty, with Vintgar Gorge being one of the most visited attractions of them all! The Gorge walk can easily be done in around two hours or half-a-day if walking from Bled centre.
Vintgar Gorge Walk
Location / Cost
Vintgar Gorge is relatively easy to find if you have internet or a NavMan in your car. Just click the red marker on the map below and then directions! From Bled centre the drive is around 15 minutes.
There are a few parking lots on the way down to the Gorge but make sure you drive down to the bottom as there is parking right by the entrance to the Gorge. Parking is free.
Entrance to Vintgar Gore walk costs €4 per adult.
Opening times
The Vintgar Gorge board walk is open from 8am to 7pm in the evening. To avoid the bus groups it is best to come before 11am and after 1pm.
General Information
After you park your car in the carpark make your way to the entrance. Here you can purchase your tickets before entering the Gorge walk.
The boardwalk length is around 1.6km (~1mile) which takes approximately one and half hours. The walk is relatively easy with a few narrow areas which is only an issue if there is some oncoming traffic (when it is busy!). Its awesome to be able to walk along the emerald river so closely, with some areas allowing you to even take a dip! However the water is freezing cold, so do at your own risk!
Around each corner awaits a new surprise whether its small rapids, a spring or a bridge! It was quite busy when we went but as you walk further it seems to be more spread out rather than at the beginning.
Towards the end you will come to the Šum waterfall which is also beautiful.
We could go on about the beauty of Vintgar Gorge, however we think it is easier if we let the photos do the speaking!
Verdict
Overall, visiting Vintgar Gorge was an amazing experience – however if you are also planning to visit Bovec you could potentially give Vintgar Gorge a miss as there are more spectacular Gorge’s in Bovec with almost no one around!
