As we took our mesmerising seaplane from Male International Airport we gazed over the thousand of islands in the Maldives. Before long, we touched down in the renowned UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Baa Atoll. Home to Vakkaru Maldives Resort. An exotic, luxurious resort with immaculate overwater villas, fringed white beaches, deep blue holes and an abundance of marine life just
We don’t say this often but our stay at Vakkaru Maldives Resort was truely. a dream come true! There were many ‘pinch-me’ moments during our
1. Location
Located in an incredibly remote part of Baa Atoll, Vakkaru Maldives Resort is an easy 30 minute seaplane ride from Male. Made easier by the fact that guests have the chance to relax in the Vakkaru lounge before boarding their seaplane. Choose a window seat in the lounge where you can watch the seaplanes come and go while indulging in some pre-flight snacks and drinks! The other benefit, check-in is done in the lounge. Our butler Faith (who was so lovely!!) picked us up upon arrival to the island and whisked us straight to our room. How convenient is that!
On arrival, you will notice that Vakkaru Maldives Resort is surrounded by reef. Yes, that makes it a reef island! Unlike some other islands, there is not another island insight. The exclusivity of the island’s location will continue throughout your stay. From the diligent service to the facilities and offerings available!
2. Style and Character of the Island
The island itself isn’t large, nor is it small. With 2,300 fully grown coconut trees scattered across the island, there are sandy paths that direct you to different areas on the island. Whether it be to the restaurants, pool area or diving
Generally speaking, the island oozes laidback luxury. From dining in the sand at Vakku, the grill restaurant to the overwater spa treatments at Merana Spa. While guests staying are obviously spending good money to be there, no one feels as though they need to get dressed up. There is an overall relaxed environment feeling to the island, with everyone there wishing to relax, enjoy the sun, read a good book and indulge in divine cuisine.
3. The Rooms
In total there are 113 luxury villas and suites which are either beachfront or over water. While the beachfront rooms offer complete privacy due to the swaying coconut trees, the overwater rooms would be our recommendation! Expansive views over the ocean and direct access to the nearby blue holes, these rooms are sublime! If you are after ultimate luxury, opt for
The decor of each villa and suite draw on the rich traditions of the Maldives. A combination of natural elements such as wood
4. Facilities and Services
If you are looking for something a bit ‘extra’ and to wind down head straight to Merana Spa. The overwater spa oozes luxury with couples suites and single rooms available. There is even an outdoor wellness area available to guests without an appointment. Featuring a hot and cold plunge pool and a sauna this place is the perfect spot to relax before or after a treatment at the spa.
For those who are looking to be a bit adventurous, head to Splash the island’s water centre. Here you can arrange for a turtle snorkelling tour of a trip to Hanifaru Bay where the manta rays and whale sharks hang out! Snorkelling tour options will depend on the time of year you are visiting.
Guests can also use the island tennis courts, fitness centre (which has the most stunning views) and there is even a kid’s club for the little ones! Not to mention the main pool area where staff will bring you water throughout the day, cool towels and face mist. Cocktails and snacks can be ordered during the day as well.
5. Food + Drink
Choosing which restaurant to dine at maybe the hardest decision of the day. That is besides breakfast, which is served daily at Amaany. There is a
Come lunchtime, you may wish to dine by the main poolside at
For dinner, you have the choice of Vakku which is the beachfront restaurant serving grilled seafood and meat. One of the nights we were there, they even had a candlelit dinner on the beach with a live band. It was such a special evening. The other restaurants for dinner also include Onu which serves up delcious south East Asian food. Also, not to be missed!
