Recently we stayed in Munduk located in the North of Bali for two nights in November 2017. Originally we had only planned to visit for the day from Ubud, but once mapping out what we wanted to do we realised we needed more than a day trip!
Let’s start by exploring the location of Munduk. Munduk is situated in the mountain range of North Bali with views overlooking the coast, Java sea and central mountains. Being set approximately 1,000 metres above sea level, the area experiences temperatures much cooler than the popular Seminyak and Ubud. With less humidity also, the temperature makes for perfect conditions to explore the area,
// What to do in Munduk //
Below are a list of the top things to do during your stay:
- Visit Banyumala Twin Waterfall
- Visit Munduk Waterfall
- Viewpoint over Twin Lake
- Handara Golf Resort
- Stay at Munduk Moding Plantation
// Banyumala Twin Waterfall //
The North of Bali is well renowned for their beautiful waterfalls. Our favourite was Banyumala Twin Waterfall. Situated in a valley in Munduk itself, the waterfall is about a 10 minute walk from where you leave the car.
As the sound of the water becomes more prominent you begin to see glimpes of the most beautiful waterfall. Positioned around a natural pool, Banyumala Twin Waterfall consists of three waterfalls in one, with the largest in the middle.
// Munduk Waterfall //
Unfortuantly we did not have time to visit this Waterfall as we instead opted for waterfalls located further from Munduk. It is worthwhile if you have time however to visit this waterfall also as it looks beautiful.
// Viewpoint from Twin Lake //
Twin Lake are two picturesque lakes positioned at the bottom of the mountain. Known also as Buyan and Tamblingan lakes, the lakes are surrounded by mountain ranges. From Munduk, there are a number of viewpoints which provide lovely views of the lakes.
If you are like us, we couldn’t help but visit one of the roadside photo opportunities where locals have created a business out of bamboo lookout points and swings. They certainly make for a great photo opportunity.
// Handara Golf Resort //
As your driving along the main road before the incline to Munduk you may notice a large gate which is the entrance to Handara Golf Resort. Made famous by social media influencers, if you enjoy taking photos this place should be added to your list. The gates can indeed attract quiet the crowd so it is worth planning when you arrive!
