Linked to the existing Resort on Falhuumafushi Island by a 1-kilometre wooden bridge, The Residence at Dhigurah opened in June this year. Both are owned by the luxury Singaporean hotel operator Cenizaro.
Located in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, South of Male, the combined islands now make this all-inclusive Resort one of the largest in the Maldives.
1. Location
The Residence at Dhigurah is located in the southern Maldives archipelago in Gaafu Alifu Atoll which is one of the largest and deepest atolls in the world. Stretched across two islands, Falhuumafushi and Dhigurah now make up one of the largest resorts in the Maldives.
Due to its distance from Male, seaplanes are not an option which means guests take a 55-minute domestic flight from Male to Kooddoo Island. Guests are taken to the lounge where they wait for their departure flight.
2. Style and Character of the Island
The best way to describe the island is a lush oasis of nature surrounded by turquoise lagoons. Moreover, as the island is 2 kilometre in length (not including the sister island) there is an abundance of space. As you ride your own bike to/from your Villa you wind through sandy pathways with coconut and palm trees on either side. Each villa is privately hidden off the main path ensuring complete privacy for friends, family and couples.

3. The Rooms
In total, The Residence at Dhigurah has 173 Villas available. These are broken down into the following room categories:
- 86 one-bedroom Pool Villas
- 21 one-bedroom Lagoon Pool Villas
- 54 one-bedroom Water Pool Villas
- 12 two-bedroom Beach and Water Pool Villas
As can be seen, each room has been designed using the finest local materials, blending the beauty of traditional Maldivian architecture with modern design. The palettes of each room remain neutral with cream, beige and teak colours throughout. The selling points of each room, however, are the large bathrooms and big private pools. In fact, the Water Pool Villa that we stayed in even came with a wide deck and ladder that lead straight into the Indian Ocean. One thing to keep in mind for the Water Villas is that the Sunrise Water Villas are in the Lagoon while the Sunset Water Villas open to the Indian Ocean. Unfortunately during our stay, we had some rain. This meant that the ocean was a bit
4. Facilities and Services
The real benefit of a stay at The Residence at Dhigurah is that guests can use the facilities from both islands. Not only does this mean more dining options but also 2 spas to choose from! On the whole, you will definitely have enough to keep busy. Facilities and services include:
- Spa By Clarins – Over-water pavilions where a bespoke range of holistic treatments are offered. The treatment rooms themselves are enough to convince anyone to book!
- Infinity Pool – If your own private Villa pool isn’t enough, there is also a communal infinity pool measuring 42
metres ! Snorkelling and Scuba Diving – Try diving for the first time at the PADI divecentre or for experienced divers, visit one of the many dive sites in the area!- Bike around the Island – Every guest is given their own bike. Also as there are two islands to explore, bike riding is a great way to make sure you don’t miss anything.
5. Food + Drink
We would highly recommend the all-inclusive package. This allows you to eat and drink at any of the restaurants on the island. Some will provide a set menu, others will be al carte. The all inclusive also includes a decent choice of cocktails, wines, mocktails and soft drinks.
On The Residence at Dhigurah, there are three restaurants, a beach club and a bar. These include Cafe del Sol which is the poolside restaurant serving Mediterranean food. Then there is Li Bao which offers fine-dining Chinese food in the evening. Although the portions are on the smaller side, we went there twice as the food was delicious!
