Far from just an empty desert landscape, Egypt is home to some of the world’s most beautiful places.
So, it’s no wonder that tourism in Egypt has grown by more than 50%.
As more and more people wise up to the beauty of Egypt and the Nile, it’s especially important to plan a visit that stands out from everyone else’s.
Here are some of the most stunning places to stay, including destinations you might not have heard of:
1. Dahab
Unlike many of Egypt’s tourist resorts, Dahab is remarkably peaceful. It’s a naturally beautiful holiday destination, on the coast with its white-sand beaches.
If you’re interested in underwater beauty then you’ll find plenty in Dahab, which is widely recognised as one of the best places for scuba diving in Egypt.
From Dahab, you can easily reach the famous Blue Hole in the Red Sea. This underwater sinkhole is 300 metres deep, with a colourful coral reef.
2. Saint Catherine and Mount Sinai
Situated on the Sinai Peninsula, the towering Mount Sinai is considered a holy site. Carefully protected, this mountain is almost 2,300 metres tall and stands near the town of Saint Catherine.
By staying in Saint Catherine, you’ll have views of the sunrise over the mountains. You can also join a guided tour to reach the summit in under 4 hours.
During your stay, be sure to also visit the impressive Saint Catherine’s Monastery. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is truly a wonder to behold.
3. White Desert
The White Desert is known for its towering rock formations. These unusual shapes stand out amongst a vast desert landscape, and were formed by this area’s sandstorms.
It’s possible to find accommodation in the White Desert, if you want to spend the night under the stars. When waking up, you’ll be able to see the long shadows of the chalky rock formations in the orange glow of early morning sun.
4. Siwa
In this desert oasis location, find holiday accommodation surrounded by miles of rust-coloured sands. The Siwa Oasis is the place to visit for traditional mud-brick housing, swaying palm trees and hot springs.
The people of Siwa, on the Libyan border, have their own culture and language. This is a wonderfully stunning place in which to relax, in one of Egypt’s most isolated settlements.
5. Taba
On the Egypt-Israel border, Taba sits on the Gulf of Aqaba.
This is one of the most attractive places to stay in Egypt, and it’s close to the scenic Fjord Bay where you can swim or go scuba diving. Fjord Bay also includes a protected coastal shark breeding site.
During your time in Taba, you’ll be sheltered by the surrounding rocky mountains. Colourful houses line the pathways that gently lead you out towards the water.
6. Marsa Alam
Last on our list, Marsa Alam is a stunning Egyptian beach resort. Here, you can relax under a grass parasol and sunbathe where the water meets the sand.
Though Marsa Alam is a popular resort, and therefore quite busy, it’s still undeniably beautiful.
On the Red Sea Riviera, Marsa Alam has spectacular coral reefs with crystal clear waters to bathe in.
