Located in the Julian Alps, Kranjska Gora is a small yet beautiful town. While a lot of people head there during the Winter months to ski, Kranjska Gora is just as rewarding in Summer! It is a place where nature enthusiasts will fall in love. Below, we have put together a guide for visiting Kranjska Gora in Summer.
Kranjska Gora in Summer
Activities
Below is a list of activities to do when visiting Kranjska Gora in Summer:
1. Hiking
Many tourists come to Kranjska Gora in summer to hike. And who wouldn’t with over 100 kilometres of paths to choose from! There are hikes that are family friendly (and suitable for children) and others which are more suited to experienced hikers. Some will require suitable equipment and a mountain guide.
For example, hike from Mojstrana to the foot of the 2864-high Mount Triglav which is the highest mountain in Slovenia. This route will have you pass through the valleys of Vrata, Kot and Krma. You can be assured that on any hiking path that you choose to take, there will be incredible alpine views!
2. Visit Lake Jasna
Situated only 2 kilometres from the main centre, Lake Jasna is a place where you could easily spend an entire day. The name in English translate to ‘two small artificial lakes’ and that is exactly what it is. Although we would not call the Lakes small! While the Lakes themself are beautiful, what really makes this place stand out is the incredible natural scenery. There are wooden piers, a jumping tower and two small cafes which means you are really set for a fun day out!
3. Visit Lake Zelenci
An easy 10 minute drive from town will have you arrive at the beautiful Lake Zelenci. What made this one of our favourite spots in Slovenia was the beauty of this place. Featuring a turquoise green lake, the area is surrounded by the most spectacular nature. This is not a place where you would come too swim, but it is very much worth the visit. We spent close to an hour here sitting on the edge of the pier admiring the colour of the Lake (and watching the fish swimming around!)
Note: From the carpark which is on the side of the road, the Lake is approximately a 5 minute walk.
Places to Eat & Drink
The town itself is very sweet. While it may not be large, it has a nice feel to it. On the other hand, we only ate at one restaurant that we thought would be worth mentioning. The other ones mentioned below are in town and easy options (however for us, the food was not great).
- Milka Restaurant – this was by far our favourite restaurant in the area. It’s location which is overlooking Lake Jasna is worth the drive from the main centre. We enjoyed a cauliflower soup followed by a delicious beef dish for main course.
Other restaurants in town:
- Hotel Kotnik
- Hotel Lipa Restaurant
- Gostilna & Pizzerija Bor
