Looking for somewhere to stay in the Maldives?
The Maldives is one of those pinch yourself moments. Everyone wonders if the water will be as blue as images show, and whether the over-water bungalows will really be as magical. It’s location however, in the middle of the Indian Ocean is not easy to travel to and the lack of accessibility to the islands makes accommodation expensive. Hence, when travelling there you want to make it an unforgettable experience.
As the Maldives is made up of almost a thousand of small islands it is important to choose where you stay wisely. Unlike mainland resort locations, you can not walk down the street and find a range of restaurants or local shops. Instead resorts cater to all your needs. Here is our review of Taj Exotica which we believe offers everything you need for a perfect Maldives holiday.
// The Resort //
Taj Exotica Resort & Spa is situated a 15 minute speedboat ride from the main island of Male, in the middle of one of the largest lagoons in the Maldives. Here, there are 64 sea view villas and suites as well as the glamorous presidential suite.
While the island itself allows you to walk from one end to the another in roughly 10 minutes, there are enough activities to keep you occupied during your stay. On the other hand, if you’re a bit like us we could happily spend multiple days diving into the clear blue water and soaking up the sun around the pool. It’s worthwhile taking a day trip around some of the other islands and exploring the marine life that the Maldives has to offer.
Your stay on the island will not have you living on a staple diet, with four restaurants of different cuisines to choose from; 24 Degrees, Equator Bar, Pool-side Bar and Restaurant and High-end dining at Deep-End Restaurant.
// The Room //
We stayed in a lagoon room which had direct access via a ladder into the clear blue water. Each morning we soaked up some morning rays on the large sundeck chairs before organising with our personal butler the plan for the day. At dusk we enjoyed a bath which was positioned against the glass overlooking the lagoon before tucking into the large king size bed with plush pillows.
It was clear that every element of the room has been carefully considered. Timber floor boards match the fine wood furnishings throughout the room while the hint of brown through the marble in the bathroom compliment the room perfectly.
// The Verdict //
There was nothing not to like about this resort. While there are many glamorous resorts spread throughout the Maldives, we found Taj Exotica to be a perfect mix of boutique resort with a charming atmosphere. Everything from the dining options to attitude of the staff was commendable. It’s worthwhile including this resort in your options for your stay in the Maldives.
