Positioned on top of a mountain in the North of Bali, Munduk Moding Plantation is a unique and exquisite hotel. Both of us have been to Bali on more than one occasion yet neither of us have ever travelled to the North of Bali. After our two-night stay, we need to come back again as there was so much to do and see! You can see what we got up to here: Top 5 things to do in Munduk.
// Location //
We arrived from Ubud which took us two hours by car. The hotel itself, is situated 1,000 metres above sea level in a remote and peaceful area known as Munduk. From the hotel are exquisite views over the coast, the Java Sea and the central mountains.
Munduk Moding Plantation has enough to keep you busy but if you are interested in exploring North Bali then the hotel is a good base. Both Banyumala Twin Waterfalls and Munduk Waterfall are 20 minutes drive, Lovina Beach is 30 minutes drive and Handara Golf Resort is 26 minutes drive.
// The Hotel, Munduk Moding Plantation //
Munduk Moding Plantation is positioned on a five-hectare property. Of this, two and a half hectares is the coffee plantation. Guests are free to explore the coffee plantation which is positioned on the lower half of the property.
On arrival we were taken by golf cart to reception where we were welcomed with flower lei’s. After checking in we ventured outside to take a look at the well renowned 18-metre infinity pool, which overlooks the ocean and mountains. The pool is just as we had seen in photos prior to arrival! It is by far one of the best pools we have seen to date.
The rest of the hotel is comprised of a small selection of villas which are dispersed throughout lush gardens. The Villas range from Garden Villas, One Bedroom-Villas, One Bedroom Pool Villas, Two Bedroom Pool Villas, Two Bedroom Coffee Villas and a Four Bedroom Pool Villa.
// Our Room //
We stayed in a Garden Villa (the photos below however are of a One Bedroom Pool Villa). Our room was quaint and perfect couples. The bedroom featured a large king size bed with a canopy. The ensuite bathroom was large with both a separate bath and shower. For us, the highlight of the room however was the lovely terrace which was privately tucked away with views over the hotel’s lush gardens.
// The Amenities //
The hotel offers many activities with a daily activity planner left on your bed each night. Activities range from a tour of the coffee plantation to a shuttle to nearby waterfalls to learning to make a kite and movie screening at night. There are a range of different activities each day to keep you busy, especially if you bring the family along!
For us, the highlight of Munduk Moding Plantation was definitely the 18 metre infinity pool. It truly is worth coming to the hotel to have a look at the pool. Below the pool is also a Jacuzzi which is an amazing spot to have a cocktail and watch the sun set.
Each night we ate at the MiMPi restaurant which serves a variety of Indonesian and Western food. The restaurant overlooks the pool so it’s a perfect setting for both breakfast and dinner.
// Day Trips //
During our two night stay we spend two of the days exploring the nearby attractions. The hotel organised a lovely driver for us who took us to the nearby Munduk Swing (a vantage point over the twin lakes), Banyumala Waterfall and Handara Golf Resort.
We requested on the second day to visit Aling-Aling and Git-Git Waterfalls. Located about an hour away, the hotel had no issue in organising this day trip for us.
// Our verdict //
Just exploring the grounds of this hotel could take half a day. The size of the property truly made our experience very relaxing and the area itself is very unique to Bali. The boutique size of the hotel meant that no request was too difficult, with the staff catering to all of our needs.
We will not only be back to Munduk Moding Plantation but we will also be back to explore the lovely area in which the hotel is located.
