Our recent stay at The Kayana was the perfect start to our 10 day holiday in Bali. Positioned close to Potato Head, the luxury villas are an oasis in the heart of buzzing Seminyak.
// The Location //
For first timers to Seminyak, you want to be positioned somewhere in between Ku de Ta to the South, Potato Head to the North and Jl. Sunset Road to the East.
The Kayana is positioned within a 10 minute walk of Petitenget Beach and Potato Head. This meant we were easily able to walk wherever we wanted but regardless taxis are very well priced if it’s too hot to walk!
// The Hotel //
The streets throughout Seminyak are always busy, especially from tooting horns. Even when we arrived at The Kayana at 9.30 at night the entrance to the hotel reception echoed noises from the outside. Note: Once past reception the noises from Seminyak town cannot be heard!
After checking in, we were taken by buggy to our room which was down a very picturesque tree lined path (which we did not fully appreciate until the next morning). Our room was right at the back of the complex, yet within easy walking distance of the lobby area.
Kayana is made up of 24 villas. They consist of 12 one bedroom plunge villas, 11 one bedroom pool villas and 1 two bedroom pool villa. We stayed in a one bedroom pool villa.
// The Room //
One of the highlights for us about The Kayana was the Balinese inspired design of the Villas. While a lot of hotels are influenced by Balinese design, many of the new hotels have lost the Balinese touch.
When the door opens you find yourself set in your own little paradise. Our one-bedroom Villa featured a 7-metre swimming pool, with ample sunbaking area and an undercover cabana area which made for the perfect area to retreat from the sun during the day or as the perfect setting for breakfast.
On arrival we were exhausted so it was a relief to walk indoors to a very large king size bed that oozed comfort. The room was open plan, with the bathroom positioned behind the bed head wall. The bathroom certainly catered to everyone’s needs with dual vanities, a large soaking bath and a well operating shower (we can be fussy about the strength of water pressure!).
// The Amenities //
The amenities that The Kayana has to offer are spread throughout the complex. The main feature is the open plan restaurant, known as The Duah Restuarant is positioned behind the pool. The pool itself is actually very lovely, but we found it was generally very quiet as most people relaxed by their Villa pools instead. Whether you prefer retreating around your villa or venturing to the main pool, both allow you the option to request whatever your heart desires, from cocktails to spring rolls and nasi goreng (one of our favourites).
The Kayana also has an on site spa facility with options for a number of treatments. Unfortunately, we didn’t spend much time at the spa except for out 15 minute complimentary head and foot massage which certainly had us wanting more. One of our regrets was not using this treatment earlier in the stay as we definitely would have booked for another treatment.
Other amenities/activities included a gym, yoga lessons and cooking classes but if you are looking for something exotic we would suggest up a BBQ set up in the villa for lunch or dinner.
//Our verdict//
We were very impressed by our stay at The Kayana. The boutique size of the complex means every point of detail does not go unnoticed. There is an overwhelming number of staff who are always available at your request.
Our favourite part about The Kayana was the serenity which we felt at the Villa, still knowing however that we were positioned in the heart of buzzing Seminyak.
