Have you heard of Bucas Grande in the Phillipines before? The island may not have been on your radar seeing as it is much quieter than the nearby Siargao. However, do not rule it out as Sohoton Cove is breathtaking and not worth missing. Below we look at the well known Bucas Grande accommodation, Club Tara, which is a resort featuring picturesque overwater bungalows!
How to get to Bucas Grande
Bucas Grande is located in the far eastern province of Surigao del Norte, in the well known municipality of Socorro. There are two main options of how to arrive to Bucas Grande. Both take approximately 2 hours.
From Surigao Airport
From Surigao Airport it is necessary to take a van / car to Hayangabon Pier. This costs Php 200/per person for a shared vehicle or Php 2000 for a private van. From Hayangabon Pier a private boat to Bucas Grande can be arranged for Php 1500 – 2000.
This option requires 1.5 hour of driving followed by a 30 minute boat ride.
From Siargao Airport

What to do in Bucas Grande
Until you visit Bucas Grande for yourself, it is hard to describe how incredibly beautiful this area is. There are a number of islands, private beaches, enchanting coves and an abundance of lush vegetation. The highlight of this area is Tikikan Lagoon (Blue Lagoon) and Tojoman Lagoon (Jellyfish Lake).
Bucas Grande Accommodation
Club Tara
Bucas Grande Accommodation may be limited, however, Club Tara is one of the most well known hotel resorts in the Philippines. That is because of its unique location and picturesque scenery. And you will not find over-water bungalows anywhere else in the world at such a reasonable cost!
Cottages sit perched over the water with air-conditioning and private terraces with jacuzzis overlooking the water offering complete relaxation. Furthermore, the resort provides access to a restaurant, swimming pool and poolside bar.
So what is the price per night? Well you may be surprised to hear that unlike over-water bunaglows in the Maldives, a night at Club Tara starts at Php 2500 (48USD) for a Garden Room. One of the over-water bungalows will cost you Php 6500 (124USD).
While the surrounding scenery of Club Tara may be 5 star, the hotel itself is not as fancy. We think it could do with an upgrade but then again you would be crazy to spend too much time in your room when you are in such an incredible location!
